Debi Pendell, an established Berkshire-based contemporary painter, has lived and worked in the Eclipse Mill Artist Lofts in North Adams, MA since 2004. Born and raised in Connecticut, she holds a B.A. from Central Connecticut State University and an M.A.L.S from Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

Since moving to the Berkshires, Pendell has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in over a dozen galleries throughout NYC and the Northeast US as well as the UK, France, and Bulgaria. She has taught artists individually, but has been more widely known throughout the US and parts of Europe for her Painting, Drawing, and Collage workshops, including travel programs to Nice, France and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She currently leads an annual residency workshop as part of Mass MoCA’s Assets for Artists Residency program.

In 2007 Pendell was granted a 5-week paid artist residency in Bulgaria by the Griffis Foundation of New London CT and the Orpheus Foundation of Sofia, Bulgaria. Pendell participated in CowParade 2000 in New York City, an event in which life-sized fiberglass cow sculptures, painted by various artists, were displayed throughout the 5 boroughs; Pendell’s was installed on Broadway in front of the David Letterman Show and an image of her work was enlarged and displayed in the windows at FAO Schwarz. Pendell is a 1999 recipient of an Individual Artist Fellowship Grant from the Greater Hartford Arts Council.

Pendell’s work has been acquired by many permanent public and corporate collections and is also included in a vast number of private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Germany, France, and England.

Pendell’s work has been exhibited at the Palace of Culture in Sofia, Bulgaria and The District Art Gallery & Museum in Smolyan, Bulgaria. Her work has also been shown in galleries in the UK (London), France (Lyon and Ozolles) and in many galleries throughout the Northeast United States. Works by Pendell have been published and written about in the books Rethinking Acrylic: Radical Solutions For Exploiting The World’s Most Versatile Medium by Patti Brady, and Acrylic Innovation: Styles & Techniques Featuring 64 Visionary Artists by Nancy Reyner.
