Art Mora Gallery, NYC, Reception

Thursday, May 29, was the opening reception of Ink Art: Printmaking Exhibition at Art Mora Gallery (formerly Coohaus) at 547 West 27th Street in the Chelsea section of New York City. Nine artists exhibited their work, and I was delighted to be one of them. Eleven of my works were hung in this show – most of them are 16×12 inches or less, but one is fairly large at a frame size of about 30×22 inches. When you look at the photos you will see most of them grouped on a main wall, but a few are behind the reception desk.

The opening reception was well attended and I am pleased to say that two of my works sold that day. But what especially pleased me was that several of my friends came, included a couple that took me by surprise. Kelly Taylor and Diane Ward came all the way from Connecticut without telling me – one of the photos shows them surprising me. Sharon Carson, who lives in our building in North Adams was cat-and-apartment sitting for a NYC friend, so she was able to join us. Lynn and Rob Gall and June and Joe Burden, who all live in NYC, also came by for the festivities. I’m so grateful for my wonderful friends!

Another highlight of the evening for me was meeting some of the other exhibiting artists. The ones I met were Jenna Bauer, Rachel Kohn, Jiyoun Lee-Lodge, and Hee Sook Kim. Oh, yes, and I also met the current artist-in-residence, Dayeon Won (called Wonda), a furniture artist from Korea. Unfortunately I neglected to take any photos of her work. She recently built chests with drawers, beautiful wood-working, with the faces of the drawers made of some material (plastic?) that was molded from toys – you can identify legos most strikingly! Really wish I had a photo for you. Unusually creative furniture designs.

Most of the other artists who exhibited in this show with me have websites. I will list them, in case you have an interest.

Sunny Shin, owner and director of Art Mora Gallery, was fabulous to work with and did an expert job hanging this show. Group shows are always a challenge to hang well, in my opinion, and Sunny’s solution was creative and effective.

Enjoy the photos, all of them taken by my ever-patient husband and faithful supporter, Carl Oman. Thank you, once again, Carl!

Yup, there's my name. Last, but not least, as they say.

I like how she grouped your work Debi. Sounds like you got more than 6 pieces in the show. Hope you are happy with how it all worked out.

It looks like a good time was had. I love that larger work with stitching, in a yellow palette.
It reminds me of printed silk. I could see a whole series of these.
I noticed one on your website titled, Following a Thread is this the same one?
I love the simplicity and complexity of the piece.
I really enjoy reading the blog.

Yes, that’s the same one. And I have a second one started, so perhaps this will be a series. I like your observation about the simplicity and complexity. Thanks, Marie!
